The role of Scrum Master - Talking to Anne
The switch from working in the hospitality industry to working in IT
What a world of difference! Initially, in the work-life balance between these sectors. Where I always found myself “on” in my previous work, even at spare moments, I now experience much more rest and have a real weekend.
Before joining TeamValue, apart from a front-end development boot camp, I had no practical experience in IT. Bee Bizure I was able to learn a lot about the technical part quickly, and that also helps me in my current role as Scrum Master. I now have an assignment as a Scrum Master at the tax authorities.
I've learned a lot at Bizure as well as TeamValue and I'm continuing to learn, both professionally and personally. That's what characterizes TeamValue: the bar and pace are high, which is why you are very stimulated in your development here and you see that you are growing rapidly. You always feel the safety of the organization and the team, everyone is ready to help you.
Continuously optimizing the process
The question I often get is: “what do you actually do all day as a Scrum Master?” — and I can tell you something about that! Your day usually starts with chairing the daily (s). In it, the team discusses with each other what they are working on, whether they are still running into something and need help, and we look together at how the sprint is progressing. In addition, I work closely with the Product Owner, and together you ensure that your stakeholders are aware of progress. Ultimately, it's about a culture of continuous improvement. We do this by providing feedback and encouraging each other to keep doing so. We will continue to look at ways to optimize the process.
You are also often responsible for some order in the chaos. You may start on an assignment where work has already been done, and then it can take some searching. To structure that and to ensure order is extremely valuable!
I notice that empathy, communication and being energetic are of great value. I think it's important that you can empathize with someone else, that you communicate in a pleasant way, and that you are aware that this way of communicating can vary from person to person. In addition, it's nice if you bring some energy. Working should be fun, that's what it is here too! So it's important that, in addition to working hard, you can also laugh hard.
